After her speech, we all attended break out sessions that catered to womens' issues. I had the pleasure to serve on the early morning Miss Representation of Women in Media Panel. I served along with Lorine Pendleton, Director of Business Development for the Litigation Practice at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, Sandrine Charles, SAR at a prominent PR firm specializing in lifestyle and consumer clients, projects and events and our panel moderator Kelly Smith Beaty VP of Marketing & Communications for Dress for Success Worldwide.
We all represpented a different aspect of media and were able to come to the same conclusions: women are highly misrepreseted in movies, music, business, politics, television and more. We do have the power to change how the world and society view women via social media and making better life choices that we must share with the world. We must not lose our purpose and individuality by emulating what we see in media, but show the future generations of women leaders that it is possible to be great without peer pressure getting in the way.
We then went to lunch and were delighted to participate in the 'Woman of the Year' Award presentation. This year's recipient is Erica Ford of LIFE Camp, Inc. She had dedicated her life to saving the lives of our communities with her 'Stop the Violence' initiatives. Her main focus is preventing violence in schools and fostering empowerment opportunites for youth who were educationally, economically and socially disadvantaged. Her LIFE Camp vision has grown into the notable I Love My Life tour throughout NYC. Take a look at her endeavors via www.lifecampinc.com.
I would like to thank West, Inc. for giving me the opportunity to bring the Christian point of view to the panel. Many organizations are hesitant to bring faith into the conundrum we call social networking and empowerment. I was able to help others recongize that there is no power without The Most High God. We can do all things through Jesus Christ that strengthens us, and I believe it with my mind, body and spirit. We will change the moral of women in media so that our children with have a positive moral in this world. We are Women of Excellence, Strength and Tenacity!!!
