LATINO SHOW MAGAZINE hosted their SPRING FASHION SHOW at ARENA located at 135 W 41st Street, NY, NY last night! This event has been a long time waiting as we haven't seen anything from LSM since February 2012 at our coveted Annual Fashion Week events. The doors were set to open at 7pm but the crowd was already there at 5pm. People were waiting on line to see the newest Spring trends from SARAR and LISBY LORIIS. Sarar is located in 5 continents, 43 countries and NY has 2 locations in NYC. The anticipation was not only for the spectators but also for aspiring designers, models, stylists, bloggers and the Sarar Group. Sarar debuted their spring menswear on the runway. Ladies we have to refer to our 2012 SPRING-SUMMER Sarar booklet for a look at womenswear. We were then graced with an energetic performance by ANGELINA LAVO! She performed two hits that kept our hearts pumping with excitement for her next album and the next designer! Lisby Loriis' 2012 Spring Collection came with an array of surprise and decadence. She was able to pull the elegance of the 20's and 30's into modern day play and business for women of all ages. Her pieces came in neutral with a contrast play on pastels. Feathers and geometric shapes as well as fine textile made her dresses flow and show a bit of a woman's figure. If you weren't able to make it, I have a few pictures below to for your pleasure! Enjoy and see you at the next red carpet event! KKDT!!
Saturday, March 31st, 2012 was definitely a positive stamp on the future of women in society. Liz Black inspired both young and seasoned in age with her speech on Tenacity (the theme of the event). She encouraged us to never give up on our ideas, dreams and to gather with like minded people to make these dreams come to fruition. She expressed the importance of holding true to your faith, passion and will to walk in your purpose at any age.
After her speech, we all attended break out sessions that catered to womens' issues. I had the pleasure to serve on the early morning Miss Representation of Women in Media Panel. I served along with Lorine Pendleton, Director of Business Development for the Litigation Practice at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, Sandrine Charles, SAR at a prominent PR firm specializing in lifestyle and consumer clients, projects and events and our panel moderator Kelly Smith Beaty VP of Marketing & Communications for Dress for Success Worldwide. We all represpented a different aspect of media and were able to come to the same conclusions: women are highly misrepreseted in movies, music, business, politics, television and more. We do have the power to change how the world and society view women via social media and making better life choices that we must share with the world. We must not lose our purpose and individuality by emulating what we see in media, but show the future generations of women leaders that it is possible to be great without peer pressure getting in the way. We then went to lunch and were delighted to participate in the 'Woman of the Year' Award presentation. This year's recipient is Erica Ford of LIFE Camp, Inc. She had dedicated her life to saving the lives of our communities with her 'Stop the Violence' initiatives. Her main focus is preventing violence in schools and fostering empowerment opportunites for youth who were educationally, economically and socially disadvantaged. Her LIFE Camp vision has grown into the notable I Love My Life tour throughout NYC. Take a look at her endeavors via www.lifecampinc.com. I would like to thank West, Inc. for giving me the opportunity to bring the Christian point of view to the panel. Many organizations are hesitant to bring faith into the conundrum we call social networking and empowerment. I was able to help others recongize that there is no power without The Most High God. We can do all things through Jesus Christ that strengthens us, and I believe it with my mind, body and spirit. We will change the moral of women in media so that our children with have a positive moral in this world. We are Women of Excellence, Strength and Tenacity!!! Take a look at www.westinc.org and offer your helping hand in raising a nation of morally stable individuals. Remember it takes a village to raise a child! KKDT! "These 18-year old visionaries endured sleepless nights and sacrificed every penny to make their vision come true…and after 5 years, over 45 workshops, over 100 mentees, and over 500 participants at their two annual conferences, they have exemplified what tenacity really means. It is only fitting to theme WEST Inc.’s 3rd Annual Conference “Tenacity: Triumph Over Trials”. The conference will be held at The Great Hall at the City College of the City University of New York on Saturday, March 31st, 2012 from 8:30am to 3:00p.m. During this one-day experience, women from all walks of life will participate in informative workshops, panel discussions and networking opportunities. It is our vision to see you walk away with greater strength, purpose, and the will to overcome your obstacles, and then live up to your highest potential." --WEST, Inc www.westinc.org.

THE MISS BLACK NEW YORK AND MISS BLACK NEW JERSEY USA Pageants are affiliates of THE MISS BLACK USA PAGEANT AND SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION, INC. The mission of the Miss Black USA Pageant is to provide educational opportunites to outstanding young women of color and develop the 'whole woman:mind, body and spirit.' The Miss Black New York and Miss Black New Jersey Pageants are produced by the Amoeji Foudation. The Amoeji Foundation's mission is to mentor and advocate for underrepresented young women and instill valuable tools in them to ensure they lead successful and fulfilling lives. The foundation promotes entrepreneurship, develops workshops and provides skills training. I had the opportunity to serve as a preliminary judge of the Personal Interview sections of both pageants. I met many exceptional women of color. The contestants ranged from wealthy to poor socio-economic backgrounds but one thing was common: they were determined to commit to the upliftment of young minority women. They all had a drive to do better in life in order to be not only an example, but an advocate for young minority women. The platforms they chose ranged from socio-mental, socio-political and health and wellness issues. The finanl events of the pageant was held November 5th, 2011 at the Aaron Davis Hall in Harlem, NY. The 2012 Miss Black New York and Miss Black New Jersey were chosen. The picture provided is of the winners. I pray God blesses them in all of their future endeavors. You may find out more about Miss Black New York, Miss Black New Jersey and The Amoeji Foundation at the following websites: www.missblacknewyork.org www.missblacknewjersey.org Please read the Testamony of a Finalist of the Pageant:
******** E. Williams - NJ Top 5 "My feet are swollen, my legs hurt, heel broke, and I'm broke (financially) all because of this pageant. The thing is I would do it all over again. I had an amazing time and experience. It was refreshing to see women of color strong, educated, outgoing, and down to Earth. The most rewarding part was making top five and my mother saying I made her cry because she never saw that side of me. I have never danced before like that and did my talent until I got to the pageant. I have been through depression, self esteem was so low, and just thought I was a star no one would ever see. I have been through so much in my life and this is the best of it so far. For the first time in my life I put my heart into something and didn't run because of fear of losing. The pageant taught me to feed my faith to starve my fears. I wouldn't have changed anything. Thank you so much." |
